The Secret of Spur-of-the-Moment Entertaining

March 3, 2010 · view comments

Wouldn’t you love to be able to calmly & happily welcome any & all into your home on the spur-of-the-moment?  Not to stress or panic about what a mess your kitchen is?  Or what in the heck you have to feed someone?

A Bit of a Mess

It’s possible.  Especially if you take what I’m going to tell you to heart.

Most people, your Mother and maybe your Aunt excepted,  don’t care about the dirt and untidiness of your home.  Heck, most people don’t even see it.  They don’t really even notice what kind of furniture you have or the color of your bathroom.  I had this proven to me time after time when someone who’s been in my house dozens of times suddenly asks me if I’ve always had that chair. (yes) Or if the walls in the family room have always been green. (yes)

What people notice and care about is the warmth of your welcome, your smile and your relaxed happiness that they are visiting you.  That’s it.

Friday night Ryan & Margaret stopped by, separately, and wanted to hang out and play some games.   Great, but the place was kind of a mess and I really had nothing to offer them to eat (usually I have plenty of homemade goodies on hand).

That’s OK.  Trader Joe’s delicious  Pub cheese spread with horseradish was in the cheese drawer.  I had crackers.

And since Maggie just got off work and hadn’t eaten, a frozen pizza was taken out of the freezer and popped in the microwave.

Ummmm

I also had a half-full bottle of  Francis Ford Coppola’s Bianco Pinot Grigio which was a perfect blend of floral with crisp peach & grapefruit flavors.  Went great with the cheese spread and pizza.

They all enjoyed the food, drink, fun and fellowship…. especially the warm welcome.
